ARSENIC and LEAD in the 18% slag containing rockwool is the issue. Some had asbestos yes but the main worry is the use of recycled materiels like slag which has high levels of lead and arsenic....dont grow your weed in it thats for sure..!!!

JESUS...ffs. Rockwool tm is made from melted spun basalt and about 20% SLAG . yes furnace slag. Asbestos is very unlikely as asbestos is magma chamber roof materiel very separate usually from the basalt magmas below and do not mix together in basalt rock. Of course furnace slag contains high levels of arsenic and lead.... rockwool used for growing will contaminate plants with arsenic and lead...that would be far more concerning than possible asbestos contamination...Lets not forget the folk who got asbestosis worked in chysotile asbestos mines without breathing protection ...very different from processed materiel and in saying that about 50% of those workers exposed daily relentlessly were affected. To get asbestosis from limited exposure is extremely unlucky rare and not really a thing.... Canada is currently filling india with raw compressed fiberous cyhrsotile roofing , thats not ok. Back to rockwool , this is a red herring story as the concern is asenic and lead not asbestos.
